Evelyn’s House for Young Mothers and Babies is a residential program that provides a safe, nurturing home and supportive services for young women up to age 21 who have become homeless during pregnancy or after having a baby. Evelyn’s House provides housing and 24-hour staffing to help each young mother care for herself and her child - and to support her in becoming self sufficient and moving into her own home. Each young woman is assisted to enroll in school, enter job training or become employed. All the families are connected with services for health care, counseling, education, employment, child care and special individual needs. At any time, up to seven mothers and their children are living in private rooms and enjoying the larger family-style areas of Evelyn’s House. The home is located at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, New York. The moms and kids of Evelyn’s House benefit greatly from the generous contributions of cash and gifts offered by local groups and individuals. Our success relies greatly on the continued involvement of interested and invested community partners. Each mother and child living at Evelyn’s House also experiences compassion and kindness through the caring acts of our beloved volunteers who help with child care, group activities, transportation, holidays and fundraisers. CAN YOU HELP? Evelyn’s House is funded by grants from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; the N.Y.S. Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance; The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties; and the Margarets Gaffney and Van Waes Fund of The Community Foundation.
