Healthy Families is a free and voluntary program in Oneida County that helps families meet the challenges of parenting. The program's home based services start during pregnancy or at birth and, depending on the family’s needs, may continue for up to five years. New or expecting parents may ask their doctor, nurse, WIC counselor or other workers for a referral to Healthy Families. Or a parent may call us directly to talk with our staff about the program. To start, a Family Assessment Worker meets with the parent(s) and reviews the family’s history, needs, goals and thoughts about parenting, and assists by linking families to resources in the community. Healthy Families may then offer the services of a Family Support Worker to those families who would benefit from ongoing participation. Upon enrollment, the family’s own Family Support Worker begins making regular home visits. What does a Family Support Worker do? Supports and reinforces the positive interactions and bonding between parents and child.
Healthy Families-Oneida County is funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, provided since 2001 through a partnership of the Family Nurturing Center of CNY and the Oneida County Health Department. |
